Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Asphalt Paving Industry | Full-Time
Starting Pay: $35/hour+ (based on experience)
We are looking for a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of paving equipment. This role includes both shop work and field service calls.
What You’ll Do

Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on pavers, milling machines, rollers, dump trucks, skid steers, and lowboys
-
Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems
-
Conduct daily equipment inspections and troubleshoot issues
-
Handle service calls and field repairs at job sites
-
Travel to job sites as needed
-
Deliver and install parts
-
Maintain a clean, safe shop and work environment
What We’re Looking For
-
Experience working on heavy equipment (paving equipment preferred)
-
Strong knowledge of diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems
-
Ability to work independently and solve problems in the field
-
Reliable, safety-focused, and detail-oriented
-
Must hold a valid Class A CDL license
Physical Requirements

Lift and carry 50+ lbs regularly
-
Ability to stand, bend, and move throughout the day
Screed Operator
Tibbs Paving is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Screed Operator to join our paving crew. This role is critical to ensuring proper grade, thickness, and a smooth asphalt finish on commercial paving projects.
Position Summary:
The Screed Operator is responsible for controlling the screed on the asphalt paver to achieve the correct depth, slope, and surface quality.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Operate and control the screed on asphalt paving machines

Set and maintain proper grade, slope, and thickness
-
Adjust screed settings for consistent mat quality and smoothness
-
Monitor material flow and communicate with the paver operator
-
Assist with setup, including tow points and grade controls
-
Check joints, edges, and transitions for quality finish
-
Perform daily equipment checks and basic maintenance
-
Follow all safety procedures and job site requirements
Qualifications:

Experience as a screed operator required

Strong understanding of asphalt paving and grade control
-
Ability to read grade stakes and adjust accordingly
-
Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

Reliable transportation

Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed

Traveling to out of state projects
Roller Operator
Tibbs Paving is seeking an experienced and reliable Roller Operator to join our paving crew. This position is essential in ensuring proper compaction and a smooth, high-quality asphalt finish on commercial projects.
Position Summary:
The Roller Operator is responsible for operating compaction equipment to achieve proper density and finish of asphalt surfaces.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Operate steel drum and/or rubber tire rollers for asphalt compaction

Perform breakdown, intermediate, and finish rolling
-
Maintain proper rolling patterns to meet compaction requirements
-
Work closely with the paver operator and crew to ensure quality results
-
Monitor mat temperature and adjust rolling as needed
-
Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance
-
Follow all safety procedures and job site requirements

Assist crew as needed
Qualifications:

Experience operating asphalt rollers required

Knowledge of compaction techniques and paving processes

Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment

Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license

Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed

Asphalt Raker
Tibbs Paving is looking for a dependable and hardworking Asphalt Raker to join our paving crew. This position plays a critical role in delivering a smooth, high-quality finished product on commercial paving projects.
Position Summary:
The Asphalt Raker is responsible for hand-working asphalt to ensure proper grade, depth, and finish behind the paver.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Rake and lute asphalt to proper grade and thickness
-
Smooth joints, edges, and transitions (curbs, manholes, etc.)
-
Assist with asphalt placement and final surface finishing
-
Work closely with the paver operator and roller operators
-
Maintain proper drainage and slope requirements
-
Shovel, clean, and prep job sites as needed
-
Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE
-
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

Experience in asphalt paving preferred (raking/luting experience a plus)

Ability to work in a physically demanding, outdoor environment
